Women make up 50% of the UK’s population. But only 21% of business owners. Why? Because they don’t get the capital that they need to scale. The good news though: Change is coming. We are witnessing a historic moment with the UK’s first female Chancellor, who not only acknowledges the billions female entrepreneurs can contribute to Britain’s economy, but has also actively backed the Invest in Women Taskforce. And we’re striving to bring together collective action from the public and private sector to really shift the dial. To achieve sustainable and systemic change, we’re going to need your support. Historically, wealth creation for women has been tied to their family or their partners. As a result we have results like UK men have £599 billion MORE than women in ISAs, investment accounts and private pensions, which means the UK Gender Investment Gap is greater than the GDP of Switzerland. The time is up for that. Hence, initiatives like Invest in Women Taskforce are the gateway to build a society that allows women to create wealth without the need to depend on their partners, families, or traditional societal structures for financial security. To all the women you do not need a tie but an environment that supports your wealth creation journey. Two things on my mind this week... 1. Women supporting women. 2. The importance of building your network and ecosystem. And on this week's episode of the Podcast Debbie Wosskow, OBE covers the importance of both! As you may have seen in my post earlier this week, Debbie has been appointed by the Prime Minister to co-chair the Invest in Women Taskforce. Her goal is bold: to make the UK the best place in the world for female founders by creating the largest funding pool for women entrepreneurs. The numbers are stark. Female entrepreneurs in the UK receive just 2% of investment capital. Only 2% of investment partners are women, and only 7% of angel investors are women. This needs to change. Debbie’s mission is to turn these numbers around. She's launching a fund of funds to back female investors who, in turn, support women-led businesses. And as ANYONE who follows me on here knows - I truly believe in the power of ecosystems and networks. The people we connect with and support can make all the difference in our journeys. In fact, I think networking and building my own network has 100% been the biggest contributor to my success! So this Thursday REMEMBER, we rise by lifting others.
