I’d love to see a fund of funds backing first time women co/founded GPs. This could be public or private but Fund I could be as simple as £25m-£50m, deploying £5m cornerstone tickets. This type of ticket could be catalytic in driving the ability of women allocating capital to raise Fund I and would be hugely beneficial to the ecosystem. Speaking with 😃 David Fogel , Roxane Sanguinetti and Emma Blackburn last night at an emerging manager event it was clear this is something that needs to exist but at the moment does not. I initially wondered why this didn’t exist during the the UK Business Angels Association Women backing women event. You could access genuine alpha as an LP in these funds. The market is wide open, in the UK there are some awesome funds/organisations that would be in the pipeline for a dedicated FoF, like Marla Shapiro at HERMESA, Pamela Walker Geddes at THENA Capital, Triin Linamagi at Sie Ventures,Jessica Sue Rasmussen DipWSET at Two Magnolias Venture Capital, Rupa Ganatra Popat at Arāya Ventures, Sarah Drinkwater at Common Magic to name just a few. Could the task force look about how this could be established? New FoF like @thema capital and Allocator One are good examples of how the model could work.
I am proud to be part of the Invest in Women Taskforce, enabling us to take action to leverage the investment power of many more women angel investors and many more women founding and building new funds. This work directly impacts the level of investment we can bring to women powered businesses across the UK. There is so much more to be done to achieve our goals and great to be working alongside Debbie Wosskow, OBE and Hannah Bernard OBE and so many great players.
I’m really proud to be part of the Invest in Women Ecosystem Working Group. Since the launch in March, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with an inspiring group of industry leaders – focused on creating an environment where female-powered businesses can start, scale and thrive.
